research and planning - film poster analysis

The conjuring

From the colours used in the poster which are very dull and dark colours it makes it seem like its the horror genre , as these are expected in a horror genre. It also states that this was created by the makers of saw and insidious, this will be recognized by the existing audience from those films, and will draw attention to them to watch the film to see what its like compared to the others. It also says how this is based on a true story, this is something that will create a feel of realism to the audience and make them feel this could happen to them, and make them feel scared when watching the film. The imagery of the poster is a house on a land, which looks deserted and far away, there is a house which is something which comes up in horror films which could imply the house is possessed or is haunted and this will be something that will create an effect on the audience as this creates realism. There is a tree with a rope hanging, which could suggest somebody will be hanging there, maybe a past spirit or someone in the present, also a shadow is seen at the bottom behind the tree, this could be someone watching over the house or the people in it. Also this could be a new family moving in, and this will give the audience a thrill as this is something that happens in real life 'moving houses'
The target audience for this will probably be 16-24 year old, as anyone younger than 16 might not want to watch anything which is based on a true story as it could make them feel very scared and get them thinking,at 16 teenagers are more mature than the younger teens. The older age like 24 ish and younger will enjoy this as it could be interesting and a thrill to watch this. The poster looks low key which creates a sinister effect.

Research and planning - film poster analysis

(Your Next)

Here is a film poster for 'your next' I am going to analyse this as this will help me to create my film poster. Looking at the poster we can see this is the genre of horror. This is seen through the colours used on the mask, dark browns and the blood on the mask also indicates that it could be about murder. The font is almost portrayed as if it has been scratched, this gives a sinister effect and creates the audience to feel a sense of realism. The person on the front of the poster is positioned in the center of the page this creates the audience to focus on them, and the mask, the mask is something which is interesting and will create more attention to the audience as the 'killer' is unknown and they will want to know who is behind this and this is something that will drive them to want to watch the film. The audience of this film might be people around 18-25 as this is something which is focused on many murders and sounds gory and might not be something that younger teenagers will want to watch. The person behind the mask looks like its a male, this is a horror and in horror the killers are mainly males, so this can be more aimed at males rather than females. The lighting is low key and this relates to the genre of horror, also there is back lighting used which makes the character look like they have more power and are in control of what is happening in the film.A medium shot is used, this focuses on the mask and really draws attention to the audience, because they want to know who is behind it.

research and planning - Group meeting (film name)

We have had another group meeting to discuss the name of our film. we have come to a decision to name it 'Disorder' , this was not in the list of film names that we made, the reason we have given our film trailer this name is because it could mean two things, one it could link to mental health which relates to the main protagonist in our film trailer who is said to have paranoia and schizophrenia, but in actual fact the psychiatrist is the person with the mental illness.

Research and planning - Animatic storyboard

Here is a storyboard that we have created within the group. This is a rough outcome of our trailer and the shot types which will be used.we have created this from different images from the storyboard. To put this video together we took pictures of all the images and we uploaded them onto i movie and created the scenes, through adding different transitions and sounds to the length of time we would roughly like it to be. Doing this has really helped us get an idea of what scenes we would like to film and how we are going to do that. It has also made us think about our props.

Research and Planning - sound test

In the group my main role is the sound, we have done a sound test on garage band. In the sound test we have put together some sound effects that we all think will suit the genre of a horror trailer. The sounds which we have created are sounds we would imagine to be in our horror trailer, we have sounds such as, footsteps, rain this creates the genre of horror because they are realistic sounds and the audience will interact with the sign of realism. Also we have included the sound of a door creaking, which is a very stereo typical sound for a horror film, because it creates suspense. Through doing this it helped me as I am the main person for sound and these sounds gives me an insight of what we expect to input into the trailer.

Research and planning - What I have done today

Today I have done some extra research posts, one was on the banned film in the Uk, it was the human centipede 2. I have also done a research post on why males and females like horror films. I also did another post on what is a trailer and I have tried to uploading my audience interview videos for the lat 2 weeks, but I have had some technical difficulties and I hope to have it up by next week.

Research and planning - Who likes to watch Horror films?

Here are some reasons that people have come up with, to why people like to watch Horror films. So it has been said that Men are the ones who are more likely to enjoy Horror movies rather than girls.Men have the idea that watching something scary and being brave makes them feel like they have mastered  something threatening. Also they like to watch Horror films on dates as women are more likely to be scared and have more physical closeness with men through the movie. This is rather stereo typical of women and makes them sound weak.

Research and planning - Banned horror films

The BBFC classed this as 'revolting' and it was banned in the UK. In october 2011 it was later certified an 18, after over 32 cuts were made of 2 minuets and 37 seconds.

Here is some critical response that the film has got.

Research and planning - what is a trailer

A trailer/teaser trailer is what gives us an insight preview into a new film. It shows us clips of the film to get the audience interested and an opinion on the film. The purpose of a trailer is also to inform the viewers about the release date and the name of the movie, most trailers have the same basic element to the audience.

key elements of most trailers and teaser trailers

Peaks - high points of action from the complete film which brings the audience into watching the film.

A montage - A selection of different sciences all edited together to create a sequence, which allows the audience to know what to expect from the film as a whole.

Tittles - words in-between clips and over clips, this visually helps the audience through emphasising the narrative.

A voice over -  speech over the top of the film, to create the narrative and emphasise the film more, this is mainly used in comedy trailers and does not appeal to me as I am making a horror trailer.

Titles - This is when there are words in between the clips, just like the voice overs but it is visual rather than auditory, being visual it can emphasise the trailer into bringing it all together for example including the font and the colour int he title will also be eye catching to the audience.

Release date - This is something that allows the audience to know when the film will be available to watch int the cinemas.

Certificate - This is something that will be shown before the trailer begins so that it has an age restriction on it, so that it will only be watched by a suitable age.

Studio name - This is the name of the studio/ production company that produces the film and this is put onto the trailer and the film.

here are some examples of horror trailers.

Research and planning - Audience theories

I have looked at some audience theories, and they have allowed me to understand how the media affects people more. The theories are:

The hypodermic Needle theory

This theory suggest that the media can influence people with a message which is designed to go straight the the audiences brains,

The desensitisation theory

This theory suggest because a person is exposed to so much violence, it will no longer have an impact on them.

The copy cat Theory

This suggests that the action seen of games or films will be then copied by the audience,

The cultivation Theory

This suggests that T.V is responsible for shaping or cultivating viewers conception of reality.

Uses and gratification
This suggest that we take what we need from the media.
